Chapter Six. The Popcorn. The Movie. The Idea. We bought the largest Diet Coke and bucket of popcorn we could buy. Sat near the front. It was fun to watch this movie in the town where it was filmed. You could hear farmers in overalls saying "Hey, there's Ben's dog!" Janice liked the movie. She cried. A lot.
As we filed out of the movie theater, we stopped to take one last restroom break before hitting the road to my mother's. We walked out into a nice Iowa summer night. Holding hands. Epilogue I. As we drove away from Winterset, Janice pointed out how we'd actually visited more bathrooms than bridges in Madison County. "Hey," she said, "that would make a cool book...." or website. Epilogue II. This website, The Bathrooms of Madison County, was launched on February 14, 1996. It won numerous awards and recognitions during the early days of the world wide web. Epilogue III. Janice Putman and Allen Bukoff were married on February 4, 1998, and are living happily ever after with a house full of cats in The end.
