Events & Actions

In Boston. I can get Gabriel Moylon to look into the Gallery situation; I also recommended that we start going to Stand-Up Comedy and Poetry Open Mic Nights and not do either, instead to do Fluxtuff.

White Horse Gallery, Boston, Ma, March 1st-April ? (THESE DATES ARE NOT ACCURATE!) "Various" Show sponsored by 138...there will be a Fluxus Influx Booth, a Fluxus Influx Snack Bar, and Fluxus Influx Gift Shop.

Think it would be cool if we can avoid Galleries and other traditional art venues...Fluxus is bigger than art & has been tied too closely to art.  But it IS hard to find other public spaces in which to play.  Comedy venues sound great. Very scary thought to me..so maybe I should try it!  Getting audience members up to do historical Fluxus scripts could be mildly amusing, even without the "art context."-ab

Could we organize a nationwide Flux Carnival? We do stuff, You do stuff, other people do stuff, all on one day in various places. I say we do it on Maciunas Birthday...if we can find out when it was.

Flux Carnivals sounds fun.  Geographically simultaneous OR one place at a time. Have always liked FluxShoe (a Fluxus event that traveled around universities/etc. in England in the 70s).  Focus on one place at a time. Would require us to travel.-ab

But Flux Carnival is something big to work up to.  Once we have worked out enough of our own stuff to pull it off. Hey, we already have Fence Event! (with cowpie betting) that was designed to be portable.-ab

I've always wanted to organize an invitational "Fluxus" Science Fair.  Imagine a small gym full of cardboard tables each with an odd science-looking-like project/demo... goofy theories...  I used to do these great science fair projects in high school and would love to play with this idea & visual intense modern ritual.-ab

Media Games

1. Nothing evil or violent.
2. We can stage a semi-major event in Boston.

a. What?
b. When?

1/18 Fluxus Influx Event 1

Newbury Street, Boston

"Protest Against the Ground"

Group is organized holding protest signs: (Created by Zoom Keaveny) reading:

"Down with Ground!" "Vive Le Up!" "Gravity Kills!" and various anti-ground slogans. Cans tied to protestors shoes to avoid contact with the ground, a petition is offered to passer-by asking them for signatures which would agree to outlaw the idea of ground.

Magazine?

1. I have lots of Manilla Envelopes and Notecards. 138 is working on creating some objects. Of course, we can't go on as large a scale as Maciunas just yet...but we could get artists, universities, etc to be interested, maybe, sorta...???

2. We can ask people on Fluxlist to contribute/Subscribe. If they don't, we can mail them out randomly (to newspapers as editorials, to businesses as complaints about their products, or follow L. Ron Hubbards strategy and mail things to public figures who may be interested in the idea. -ecas

Internet Projects

Set-up and run a Fluxus Influx gallery.  Invite and display submissions.  Do a different exhibition/theme several or more times a year.-ab

Separate idea or part of online gallery:  set-up push channel (e.g., like Marimba) to deliver small chunks of Fluxus Influx content on a regular or periodic basis.-ab

Set-up a web site dedicated to "INTERNET PERFORMANCE ART."   This site could help define and grow this emerging areea by 1. collecting examples, 2. attracting essays and discussions on the topic, &  3. stimulating participation.  [Do you know of anything like this on the net?]  Examples of internet performance art..."Room with one person,"  Emmett Williams' interactive java pieces on the Virtualitas site.-ab

Live web-based interactive events

Sponsor occasional web-based live chats (using e.g., I-Chat)--varying topics, various featured guests (e.g., Dick Higgins--this was a FLUXLIST idea that we've never gotten around to).-ab

Use NetConference/NetMeeting software to hold live "FLUXUS INFLUX PLAY NIGHTS"  where interested participants meet to play together on White Boards (creating images/text/drawing/audio/video pieces...that could then be displayed in our online gallery? sent out via a push channel for subscribers?). -ab
